The Evolution of African Fashion

The Evolution of African Fashion

Only a generation ago Africans raised in the diaspora will recall reserving their traditional outfits exclusively for special occasions. Thankfully this is no longer the case with African clothing worn more now than ever before and enjoyed by people from diverse races and backgrounds too.

Well it’s 2018 and here at Nueki we want to push the boundaries out even further! It’s time to rock Ankara to the office, date night, afternoon tea and ‘tha clurrrb’ honey!

Gone are the days where African fashion was seen as too loud or too impractical or too anything for that matter. African wear now firmly holds it’s own next to other fashion genres and styles.

We want to give everyone the opportunity to enjoy African wear all year round so check out our 3 styling tips below to do just that:

  1. Accessorise! No matter the season, adding African print in the form of an accessory can spruce up the most basic of outfits. This could come in the form of a Nueki Head Wrap or statement pieces like the Africa Necklace and African Print Chokers to dress up any outfit.

  2. African wear is NOT reserved for warm weather. By layering African tops and dresses with shirts and turtle necks they can be worn stylishly all year round.

  3. Be experimental with your African wear, combine it with in season trends. Currently that looks like chunky belts and wide leg trousers.

African fashion is edgy, contemporary and evolving everyday, and we want to hear how it’s advanced for you. Share your thoughts and tips in the comments below.
